MAPS + PLACES

Al Kharid

Located in the SE portion of the world map, Al Kharid is technically a kingdom of its own, complete with camels, cacti, and scorpions. Since there is only the one town and the Chasm Mine, I've lumped it in with Misthalin. It also boasts several unique shops: the Scimitar Shop, the Kebab Shop, and the Skirt Shop. One of the two forges is located here, as well as a small general store, a silk trader, and a tanner. You can only buy silk here, and the general store in Al Kharid will not buy it, but you can sell it Varrock for a tidy profit - a good way to make money, if you don't mind going back and forth. Al Kharid is also the jumping-off spot for a quest; talk to the Chancellor in the Palace.

Barbarian Village

This small town can be found at the far west part of the map, due west of Varrock along the road. There is not much here in the way of amenities - just a large mead hall where beer and cooked meat can be had for free and a fight is always going on. The barbarians wandering about here are tough, especially their leader, Gunthor the Bold, but they will not attack unless provoked. The village also has a small mine where tin and coal, can be mined, a helmet shop, and a small kiln with two pottery wheels.

Champions' Guild

This small building SW of Varrock is reserved for the elite players, those who have gained the maximum amount of quest points through the completion of quests, which comprises only a couple hundred of the several thousand who play. The Guildhall has a small shop upstairs, where you can buy black metal helmets, black metal legs, and blue capes, which can't be found anywhere else. It also has a small pen to one side with chickens, for those who want a snack, and a range in back to cook your meat. There is also an emergency escape ladder, located on the second floor. It drops you outside the building, on the south side (which is where I'm standing in the picture above).

Cook's Guild

Located just north of Juliet's farm, this three-story building is the home for the finest chefs in Runescape (level 32 cooking and up, plus you need a Chef's Hat). The top floor has a pot for flour, a jug for water, and grapes for wine, as well as a hopper to put grin into. The second floor has the millstone, apples, pie dishes, and two ranges to cook bread and pies. The bottom floor is where you get the flour to make dough and a sink for water.

Draynor Manor

This spooky house is the home of Count Draynor the vampire (who is the subject of a quest). The place also houses other powerful creatures, including a skeleton in a closet (I don't think Andrew realized the pun when he made that one), a witch, and a few ghosts. The mad scientist on the top floor is also the subject of another quest - you have to help him find the missing pieces to his machine.

Edgeville

Edgeville is the former Ghost Town. With the appearance of the Wilderness, the Ghost Town became refurbished and resettled. Now there are a bank and general store here. The only thing notable about this place is the dungeon, which is recommended for powerful players only. There is a mine in the dungeon, in which you can find mithril and adamantium ores, as well as gold, coal, and tin/copper, and it also has a back door (that small hut), so you can go down and fight giants or go mining without running the gauntlet every time.

Lumbridge Castle

This is where you start the game, and where you end up every time you die. Second to Varrock, this is perhaps the busiest place in the game. Right outside the front gate of the castle is a guide who can give many helpful tips to beginning players. Nearby is the general store and the second forge. If you talk to a certain someone inside the castle, you can find a quest, and if you go to the church, you will find another quest. An axe shop is located in the building just south of the castle. Also, newbies wil be glad to note that the castle is a "no-kill zone" - that is, no player can attack another inside the castle and in a small area around the castle.

Draynor Village

This small village just south of Draynor Manor bears the name of the evil Count. Morgan is about the only person here, and he is the one to talk to about the vampire quest. Other personalities who have recently moved here include Ned the Sailor and Aggie the Witch. Highwaymen often accost travellers to the north of town, while darkwizards can be found to the south. Also to the southeast is a large jail.

Stone Circle

As you follow the road north from Lumbridge to Varrock, you'll pass a large circle of stones to the east. This is the Stone Circle. It was built many years ago by a coven of evil wizards who used it to summon the demon Delrith into this plane. A mighty hero wiedling the sword Silverlight defeated the demon and sent it back to its own plane, but now evil wizards are again trying to bring Delrith forth. One of the quests involves finding Silverlight and sending Delrith back to his home plane. Two kinds of darkwizards, bearded and clean-shaven, also frequent the area; the bearded ones are far more powerful, but give more treasure when killed. Both kinds are very agressive and will attack anyone who comes near them, so newbies, beware!

Varrock

Varrock is the largest city in Runescape right now. Located due north of Lumbridge Castle, Varrock boasts a variety of things to do and see: a sword shop, a staff shop, a general store, a rune shop, two smithies, an armorer, a bow shop, a tavern, an apothecary, a church, a bank, a dungeon, and two thieves' guilds. Right beside the Rune Shop is a smith who can change male armor to female and vice versa. There are places for you to practice your combat and archery skills, but the archery range is not functional (and likely will never be); the player houses in the eastern part of the city likewise are not open yet.
Varrock is the home of not one, but three separate quests, which can be discovered by talking to various people in the city. The manhole just east of the palace leads down into the city sewers, wherein rats, skeletons, ghosts, and other foul things lurk in the darkness. Many a brave adventurer has gone below and returned with riches, and many more haven't returned at all.

Wizards' Tower

Wizards' Tower is located on a small island at the far SE portion of the map. This places figures strongly in two different quests. Many wizards can be found here, and the doughty adventurer can kill them for their blue robes and hats, which improve magical mastery.

Black Knights Castle

Located atop Ice Mountain, this large castle is home to the Black Knights (not the clan, the monster). The castle is the subject of a quest - you can get in, but not through the front doors. Black knights and guards abound here.

Chaos Temple

The home of the evil Monks of Zamorak, this tower sits at the far northwestern corner of Asgarnia. The monks are nasty little buggers who curse you, so the only real reason I can see for going there is the wine that spawns on a table in the tower.

Dwarf Mine

Located inside Ice Mountain, this huge mine can be accessed by a ladder in a hut near the top. You can mine tin, copper, clay, coal, iron, gold, mithril, and adamantium ores there. There are mine carts here for ore, and lots of dwarves to kill, a general store, and an ore shop with copper, tin, and iron ores, and bronze, iron and gold bars.

Falador

This large city is located due west of the Barbarian Village. It has three new shops not found in Misthalin: a shield shop, a chain mail shop, and a gem shop, as well as a general store, a bank, a forge, and player-owned houses. The White Knights Castle is located in the southern part of the town on its own island, and the Knights and guards keep the peace here.

Goblin Village

Like the name suggests, this is a squalid little village of goblins, located on the west side of Snow Mountain. Plenty of rats and goblins of both varieties to kill, as well as a quest.

Ice Giants' Dungeon

This small dungeon is located at the far southern end of Asgarnia. It is the only place in Runescape where you can find the fabled blurite ore, and where you can find ice giants. To get to the ore, you have to run a gauntlet of muggers, pirates, hobgoblins, ice warriors, and ice giants, so be prepared.

Ice Mountain

The fabled Ice Mountain is located at the far north end of Asgarnia, due west of Ghost Town. There are several points of interest on the mountain, including the Dwarf Mines, the Monastery, and the Black Knights Castle.

Monastery of the Healing Hand

No, it's not really called that, but I thought it was catchy and appropriate - so sue me. The monastery is located on the eastern slopes of Ice Mountain and is populated by (you guessed it) monks. These monks are special - they can heal a some hits (8) by laying on hands. There is a large cabbage patch out back and sheep that can be shorn for wool, and a new special area for the most devout (31 prayer) where you can get monk's robes that prolong prayer duration, as well as get your Holy Stars blessed by Brother Jered, or pray at the altar there for extra prayer points.

Port Sarim

Port Sarim is the dock area located at the far southern end of the border between Asgarnia and Misthalin. The local tavern, the Rusty Anchor, sells ale by the pint (-2 attack, +1 hits), and the local Magic Emporium sells runes of all types, hats, and eye of newt. There's also a Food Shop here, with flour, bananas, redberries, rawmeat, cheese, chocolate, and a slot for bread - they don't carry it normally, but you can sell it there. There's a jewelry shop, where you can buy and sell rings, necklaces, and amulets, A Fishing Shop for all your fishing needs, and last but not least is the Axe Shop, where you can buy the highly sought Adamantium Battle Axe. Here also you can buy passage on a ship to the island of Karamja for just 30 gold. Looking for buried treasure? Talk to Redbeard Pete; he might be able to help you.

Rimmington

This small village is located in the wilderness of Asgarnia, in the southeastern corner of the land. There is not much there to recommend it to the average traveler, except for the practicing witch, Hetty. If you want to become one with your dark side (i.e., improve your magic), she's the person to talk to. There is also a small mine northeast of town where you can find copper, tin, clay, and iron ores, and a crafting shop that buys and sells chisels and molds for necklaces, rings, and amulets.

White Knights Castle

This large castle in the southern part of Falador is the site of not one, but two quests: the Knight's Sword Quest, and the Black Knight's Fortress Quest. Obviously, you can find White Knights here.

Karamja

Since Karamja is just a small island, there is no list of points of interest here. Ships set sail from Port Sarim, and the trip costs 30 gold. The island itself has a banana plantation, a liquor store (yes, that's right folks, there's no minimum drinking age in Runescape!), and a new dungeon in a volcano, where you can find Lesser Demons, Skeletons, and Deadly Red Spiders. Scorpions and imps abound on the island, but there isn't much else there. Didn't bring enough money for the return trip? No problem - just talk to Luthas, the owner of the banana plantation near the dock. He'll put you to work crating up bananas for shipment to Port Sarim, and pay you 30 gold when you're done.

The Wilderness

The Wilderness is located at the far northern edge of the map. You can't miss it - once you get near it, you'll receive a warning. The entire Wilderness is a PK zone. This means that ALL players are PK. It is also divided into zones - the number at the bottom right is the zone number; this number is the PVP (player vs player) range. So for example, if Joe123, level 23 player, were in Level 5 Wilderness, he could attack and be attacked by anyone from level 18-level 28. The wilderness extends clear to level 48, and holds a number of points of interest, like a couple graveyards, a lava maze, and three mines.
